Purpose and Content
The purpose of SMS training is, fundamentally, two-fold:
- To promote compliance with the procedures set out in the SMS Manual;
- To encourage the active and open reporting of incidents and hazards.
Note: For further reading, please check the contents of the ‘Articles’ tab for further reading.
Rather than offer a ‘one size fits all’ SMS course, I prefer to tailor training to the specific needs of the client. This would require a prior review, under the provisions of a non-disclosure agreement, of SMS records (reports, investigations, safety promotional material). The aim is to ensure that the training benefits the way your particular organisation works, within the scope of your own procedures and accounting for your own working culture. In essence, the training is designed for maximum relevance and for maximum effect.
What I bring to the table is 34 years of experience as a practitioner, in post-holder roles with six airlines, in six countries and on three continents. I could deliver the training either in English or in Spanish (I am of dual heritage and a native speaker of both languages). Full details are at my LINKEDIN profile (refer to the ‘About’ tab) and under the LINKEDIN logo at the bottom right-hand corner of each page.
I recommend initial training followed by a period of continuous development. In addition, I could offer external oversight of your SMS and report annually on its performance. This, in turn, would remove dependence upon your national authority and / or clients for detailed feedback on your SMS. It would, also, provide for the importation of best practices.
